Determination in Human Design tells us how we’re meant to nourish ourselves and our brains. It tells us the optimal way to consume food, new information, and experiences.
When you look at your Human Design bodygraph, you’ll see 4 arrows around your Head center. Determination is in the upper left arrow which is called dependent design variable.
There are 6 colors of Determination. Sound is the 5th color Determination and if your dependent design variable is also pointed to the right, you’ll have Low Sound Determination, which is the case for me.
4th, 5th, and 6th colors of Determination, which are Touch, Sound, and Light, are more about the circumstances than the ingredients of your food.
Low Sound Determination: Personal Experience
When I eat, I don’t like to watch new movies or listen to new podcast episodes because it takes my focus away from noticing when I’m satiated.
I don’t get the most out of my food if I’m focused on something else.
When I’m present and intentional with the food I’m eating, then I can listen to my body and notice when I’m full.
Sometimes, when I feel like it, I put on a comfort show I’ve already watched that doesn’t require much attention.
Another thing is that I lose my appetite when my emotions are triggered.
If I’m preparing a meal or am just about to eat, and suddenly I get angry at something, I would rather throw the whole thing away.
I lose my appetite when I get angry or frustrated. No matter how hungry I was before.
Passive Brain and fasting
If you have a Low Sound Determination in Human Design, it means your upper left variable is facing right which means you have a Passive Brain in Human Design.
As someone with a Passive Brain, I do well with fasting. I’m not one of those people who need to snack often, eat first thing in the morning, or eat large amounts of food.
I feel clearer when I film videos or create content before I eat. My brain works best and I have more clarity in the morning before I’ve eaten.
Low Sound Determination and studying
While I’m studying, learning or doing something that requires my cognitive focus, I prefer silence.
I love editing my videos at coffee shops because it doesn’t require me to think. I don’t mind the music and chatter.
However, if I’m preparing a new piece of content or doing something that requires me to think, I rather stay home to get it done.
Something to keep in mind
These are all personal preferences, not rules I live by. I still eat at the restaurants or at the movies. I still learn new things or write new content when there’s noise. It’s just that when I get to choose between a loud background and quiet space, I’ll choose quiet.

Attraction to people’s voices
As someone who is sensitive to sound, someone’s voice can be the biggest turn-on for me.
As soon as I meet someone, I pay attention to their voice and I notice if it’s pleasant for me.
When I was about 19 years old, me and my friend met a guy whose voice was so attractive that we couldn’t get enough of it. We were always commenting how he had such a sexy voice and we would always smile and look at each other when he would talk to us.
Now I know someone whose voice is, again, so attractive. He’s not big on voice messages, but a few times he did send me a voice message and I was like ‘’F*ck, don’t do that to me…’’
It just activates something in me on a visceral level. It’s such a turn-on.
Someone’s voice can be one of the most attractive things about them.
Low Sound Determination and sex
As I’ve said, your Determination in Human Design also tells you the optimal way to ‘consume’ life’s experiences. I’ll share how it applies to sex.
When there’s a choice between, on the one hand, blasting music, even music that I like, or having a movie in the background or, on the other hand, turning everything off, I prefer the latter.
Personally, it allows me to experience sex fully if there’s no music or movie dialogue in the background.
Again, not a rule, just a personal preference. When I can choose, I prefer hearing people’s moans, groans and grunts, the sound of liquids, bodies rubbing against each other… It’s the full experience.
When you play music or have a movie dialogue in the background, you don’t get that.
I also enjoy sex in public places, no matter if there’s noise or not. I’m Saggitarius Mars and I love experimenting. I love it when sex is fun and adventurous. This is mostly when it comes to at-home or car sex.

Wow, this resonated so much. I’ve been looking for a relatable explanation of low sound. Thank you for sharing!
