Cognition in Human Design is considered your strongest sense. It’s how your intuition speaks to you and how you take in life.
Cognition informs your decision-making process and it’s reliable and always available to you.
There are 6 types of Cognition in Human Design: smell, taste, outer vision, inner vision, feeling, and touch.
Feeling cognition is not your emotions. It’s considered the overall vibes, the frequency of things. It’s what you’re picking up on from your external environment.
You might be sensitive to your surroundings, to the smell, sound, lighting, and even electronics. Being sensitive to your environment doesn’t mean you’re a sensitive snowflake who’ll cry at the slightest sign of inconvenience. It means you’re sensing what’s around you.
It’s like you have your antennae up and you’re constantly gathering information from the outside.
It has nothing to do with facts and you can’t explain what you’re sensing. It’s just about what feeling the situation gives you.
If something feels off, it probably isn’t the right thing for you in that moment.
You’re sensitive to energy. The energy of others, the vibe in environments, and even the EMFs of electronics. It might be helpful to take some time to physically move yourself away from technology.
If you’re somewhere where you feel like you can’t relax and you feel unease, like something just feels off, go somewhere else if you can. Pay attention to the feeling of a space and make sure it feels good in your body.
Check in with yourself and ask yourself – how does the energy of your room/city/clothes you’re wearing feel? Remember that the answer has nothing to do with emotions or you explaining it or defending how you want something to feel. It just is. It either feels good or it feels off. Trust that.
What you’re picking up on will inform your decision-making process in realizing if something is correct for you or not.

Reflector in Human Design: Personal Experience and Lessons
I noticed this a lot and I relied on this while I was working as a waitress. When someone would sit at the bar, there were people that I enjoyed having near me, I would think to myself – oh, I love having you there. You feel good to me.
Then, on the other hand, there were people who felt like, nope – if I can move away from you, I will.
They don’t even have to say anything. You can literally feel their energy. And sure, you can ignore it, but why would you?
PIN FOR LATER 🙂
You have the ability to sense things others might not. And you get to choose if you’re going to go with things that feel good or settle for things that feel off.
A way to implement this into your life is to just listen to it. Notice when a person or environment feels off and remove yourself from that if you can.
Reflect on what people and places make you feel good.
What coffee shops do you prefer?
What food do you feel like eating? And why would you buy food that you’re like ”naah, I’m not feeling like eating this?”
You can apply this approach and rely on it in any situation. Notice what you’re picking up on and start listening to those subtle cues. See how it feels without trying to make sense of it.

Undefined Root Center in Human Design Explained
Human Design is a great tool to help you understand others, as well. It’s also helpful to understand your kids (if you have any, of course) better.
Say that your kid is a touch Cognition. That’s their strongest sense and they experience life through touch. That’s how they gather information. So if you tell them ‘don’t touch this/that/anything’ it’s disempowering to them because they’re taught not to use something that tells them what’s correct for them.
Cognition is a deeper layer of Human Design and it comes from your tone which not all websites show you.
Here’s a website that will tell you your Cognition – https://bodygraphchart.com/chart/generate-chart
Below your chart, in the information section, it will say ”design sense” – and it can be smell, taste, outer vision, inner vision, feeling, touch.
