Why is everyone talking about coaches? Why would someone hire a coach? Isn’t it easier and cheaper to just read a book or download a freebie than even consider hiring a coach?
In this post, I am going to focus on the relationship I have with my current coach, as well as the relationships I have with my clients.
There are many different types of coaches, and many articles online with the same title talking all about why you need to hire a coach and benefits of hiring a coach, so my intention is to describe various situations and benefits that I have experienced, rather than list the reasons and give you definitions that you can easily find online.
#1 hiring a coach saves you time figuring out HOW to achieve something
A few months ago, I invested in a business coach. I am serious about my business and I’m done downloading every freebie under the Sun that gives the exact same advice.
I invest more than $1500 each month to have a coach to guide me towards the results I want to achieve in my business.
Why? Because I know that I have an expert that I trust helping me get results I want. Days when I spent hours on end searching Google to give me some questionable information are gone.
By hiring a coach, you have all the information in one place.
When I work with my clients, we dig deep to figure out what the problem is and from there, I guide them to their goal.
Not only during our sessions but every day in between our sessions, my clients have sent me emails when they were feeling unmotivated or not sure what to do saying ‘’Hey Ivana, I am going through/feeling XYZ, what should I do?’’
And I guide them through the whole situation. That’s a huge time-saver and it lifts the weight off your shoulders knowing that you have someone to guide you rather than trying to figure out everything by yourself.
Which brings me to the next reason why you should hire a coach.
#2 hiring a coach means that you’ll get help tailored to your specific needs and desires
When you feel low, frustrated, insecure, afraid, or some similar emotion, and you search Google to find ways to improve your mood, 90% of articles have a list of 30+ things to do to boost your mood.
You will buy yourself a scented candle, order a pizza, watch a Netflix movie, and call it a day.
But skipping your emotions is not a healthy way to deal with situations in your life.
That’s actually what I talked about in my recent podcast episode – you can listen to it here.
However, having a coach means that all attention is on you.
You get the opportunity to explain your situation in a non-judgmental environment and, with the help of a coach, you will come up with acton steps and new perspectives to apply to your life.
#3 a coach is not there to judge you, but to help you
This is a big one.
I think we can all agree that so many times we are afraid of saying what we feel, what is bothering us, what we’re struggling with, or even sharing our goals with others because we are afraid of being judged.
Admitting to your friend that you’re jealous of your new colleague? That’s a big no.
Admitting to your parents that you’re struggling with money? No way.
Admitting to yourself that you’ve never felt more lonely? Yikes. That would just open a can of worms.
We don’t share those things because we are worried that other people might judge us.
Sometimes, we don’t even like to admit those things to ourselves because we start feeling guilty about our negative emotions. We think something is wrong with us if we don’t feel amazing, awesome, fantastic, splendid 100 percent of the time. Right?
I have told my coach one of my fears that I never shared with anyone.
I am going to do a live bonus session this Friday for people who signed up for my recent free training on how to start taking action and stop procrastinating where I will do a Q&A and a hot seat coaching. And I told her, ‘’What if no one shows up?’’
You see, people watch my Instagram stories, they listen to my podcast, thousands of people read my blog every single day, but a LIVE session?
What if no one shows up? What if I get only one question?
That was my fear. What if I send an email to my list where I have thousands of people and NO ONE shows up?
And she shared with me a perspective that made me feel encouraged. It made me feel at ease.
It made me feel heard and supported.
And, for my clients, I have created a safe space, too. They share their biggest limiting beliefs and insecurities – and they receive my biggest support and understanding.
#4 a coach is the most powerful accountability partner you can have
Have you heard of Gretchen Rubin’s The Four Tendencies book? I mentioned it in this post if you want to check it out, but basically, my tendency is called a rebel.
That means that I don’t care about meeting other people’s expectations, or even meeting my own expectations.
So naturally, I didn’t think that hiring a coach will suddenly make me do things that my coach expects me to.
Little did I know that that was actually EXACTLY what I needed.
How come? Well, it’s because if I want to reach a certain goal and my coach and I agree upon certain action steps that I need to take in order to achieve that goal, I AM going to do it.
And my clients are the same way.
When we come up with certain action steps that they need to do, they literally say, ‘’I am excited to do this and to tell you all about it on our next session.’’
It keeps them accountable and actually excited to take action.
And of course, sometimes some unexpected things come up, but hey, that’s why that access that my clients have to me in between our sessions plays such an important role.
Just after my latest session with my business coach, I asked her a question that I completely forgot about during our session, and she answered within minutes.
So so helpful!
#5 one word: uplevel (a scary uplevel)
It’s freaking scary!
I’ve seen coaches who charge $5000+ per month. I’ve seen coaches who charge $1000 for only one power-hour session.
And they absolutely SHOULD charge that much because they have results to back it up.
But as a potential client, when you see the price, you click X on their page.
Why? Because it’s so scary!
Why is it scary? Because you’re used to buying self-development books that are less than $20. You’re used to downloading freebies. You’re used to buying an online course here and there at a price of $99 – $197.
But giving someone $1000+ dollars? Nope.
Believe me, I’ve been there.
And that’s when you need to sit down with yourself and ask yourself a few questions.
First, is it ‘’giving someone money’’ or ‘’investing in yourself’’?
Second, why are you reading about their coaching program? Is it just to see what they offer or because that’s exactly something you need help with?
Third, where do your thoughts come from?
It’s normal that you feel resistance because you’re just about to invest in yourself in a big way.
We are used to limiting ourselves our whole life, and to say YES to moving forward and investing… That’s something new.
But if you’re reading all the information about a certain coaching program and you think to yourself, ‘’Yes, I need this in my life!’’
Then, here are a few questions to ask yourself to release the resistance and hire a coach if you feel that they could help you.
What is the cost of doing nothing?
How much of the missed happiness are you actually leaving on the table by not taking action?
A lot of times, you feel like you’re just not ready. If that’s the case for you, ask yourself what needs to happen in order for you to take action?
What are you actually waiting for?
For me, hiring a business coach meant having the confidence to take massive action in my business, KNOWING what to do to build my business, and having support along the way.
There are so many benefits of hiring a coach, and all the coaches I know have their own coach.
Funny, right?
It’s because when you want to uplevel in life, you want to make sure that you’re surrounding yourself with the RIGHT people. And personally, hiring a coach is the best thing that I have done for my business.
No more playing small and downloading freebies. If you want massive results, you have to be willing to do new things and take action.
One of the 6-figure business coaches I follow on social media said that she invested in a 7-figure business coach.
Why? Because when you want to go a step further, you want to learn from someone who is already there.
You want to be guided by someone who has achieved what you want to achieve because obviously, they know what they’re talking about so you can be sure that you’re going to get the results that you want.
I hope this post has helped you gain clarity around how coaching looks like and the benefits of hiring a coach.
