Having a bad day? It’s okay. We all have them. Before we start, give yourself a pat on the back for actually trying to find a solution on how to get over a bad day.
A lot of times we see other people’s highlights and we think something is wrong with us if we’re having a bad day. Nothing is wrong with you. You’re human. Our emotions go up and down all the time. It’s unrealistic to think that you should be happy all the time.
Allow yourself to feel bad, sad, frustrated, or whatever you’re feeling. It’s okay. You’re okay.
Now let’s dive into today’s topic.
1. Why are you in a bad mood? Journal or talk about it.
Firstly, you need to get to the core of feeling. Are you having a bad day because you noticed that you’re procrastinating? Did you eat too much after you swore that this year you’re getting in the best shape? Do you feel lonely? Did someone else make you feel bad?
Get all your emotions on paper or talk about it with someone. Get it out of your system to open yourself to all the good things the rest of the day/week might bring you.
If you try to immediately fast forward to doing the things that will make you forget about what happened, you won’t solve anything long-term.
By journaling about the situation and trying to understand your feelings and accept them, you will be able to let go of the situation in a much healthier way. You don’t have to fight the bad feelings, just accept them as a part of your life. There is always a balance in life.
There are always good days and… not so good days. And that’s completely okay.
Why should we fight the bad days? Accept them. Allow yourself to have days when you don’t feel as good. You are doing the best you can, remember that. Journal about your feelings to understand yourself better. Ask yourself every day how are you feeling. Reconnect with yourself. Show yourself some love and compassion.

2. Do something productive (after you’re done with the 1st step).
It can be only 5 minutes of sorting out the dishes, vacuuming, or doing some small task that will lead you towards your bigger goal. Chances are when you do something productive (whatever that is), you’re going to have a different perspective because then you can say ”… but at least I finally (insert what you’ve accomplished)”.
All those small wins will add up, and you’re going to feel much better about yourself when you look back and see that there were some good things that happened on a bad day after all.

3. Establish a self-care routine.
This is something I talked about in my previous post on changing your life this year and it is crucial for your mental and physical health. You need to take care of yourself.
Make a list of all the small things that make you instantly happy and start doing them. Light up a scented candle, for instance. Watch your favorite movie. Take a long shower. In conclusion, focus on feeling good.
4. Be there for yourself.
Yes, you can call some friends and hang out with them to get over a bad day. But, most importantly, you have to be your own best friend.
Know that it’s okay to have a bad day, but don’t fall deeper into that hole. Instead, understand that you are an amazing person who deserves only the best the world can offer.
Support yourself, love yourself, take care of yourself. Above all, don’t let anyone else change that.

5. Gratitude will help you get over a bad day in a more positive way.
No matter how bad something seems, there’s always something positive in every situation. Whether it is a lesson you learned or something else in the process, there is always something to be grateful for.
Be grateful that you’re alive, that you have a roof over your head, food to eat, water to drink. In short, you have it all. Don’t take anything for granted.
Learn to find the good in the bad. At the end of the day, it’s all about perspective. So, to sum up, be grateful for who you are and for every step of the journey you’re on. You are divinely guided and supported. You’ve got this!

Love this! I always had such a hard time recovering from a bad mood because I overthink everything. So what works for me is distracting myself – by reading, watching a movie, listening to music… anything that avoids talking or thinking about what went wrong. And also reminding myself of everything that is going great.

Yes, thinking about what’s going well helps instantly π

Great ideas! If I’m home and in a bad mood, I turn up the stereo loud and take a mini time out just listening to music. The worse the mood, the heavier the rock LOL!
