Have you ever thought about what it would be like to travel from home? Whether you don’t have money to travel, you don’t have time to travel, or you just miss traveling to a new destination – this blog post is for you.
Traveling is all about bringing that sense of newness and adventure to your life. That’s why I want to share some tips and ideas with you to bring that sense of newness and adventure to your daily life without even leaving your apartment. I know, crazy!
Let’s dive into my 8 tips and ideas to travel from home.
1. Decorate your home inspired by the destination you want to visit (literally, travel from home)
One of the YouTubers that I follow who’s from Melbourne was so inspired by Byron Bay that she decided to decorate her home office inspired by the Byron Bay aesthetic.
That way, she could remind herself of that place every day and travel from home in a way that’s enjoyable.
If you’re into home decor and you love to have a certain aesthetic to your place then I highly recommend decorating it in a way that’s going to remind you of your desired travel destination.
You don’t have to think too much about this. You can just go on Pinterest and search for ideas such as Parisian vintage decor, or Swedish minimalism, or Byron Bay beachy vibes with neutral colors. Whatever you’re into when it comes to home decor – Pinterest is the place to get your creativity flowing.
You can also find more ideas on Instagram. It’s a visual platform and there are heaps of tags for this type of thing.
The point is to do a bit of a makeover in your apartment. As a result, every time you walk into your apartment, you’ll get this vibe of the place you want to go to.
In a way, this also brings a sense of novelty. It breaks the routine which is exactly what we want when we are traveling.
One more thing I want to mention is that this advice is not for everyone. I’m aware that there are people that are minimalists, myself included (I don’t have any decorations in my room). I’m a minimalist to my core.
Therefore, this advice is not for me. But I know that many people love home decor and they love their place to have a certain atmosphere or a certain aesthetic.
So if you’re one of those people then this advice is perfect for you. However, if you’re not into home decor and if you don’t like having decorations or things that look good, but that you can’t use then feel free to skip this one.
And, of course, if it resonates, then this is something that you could do today. Go on Pinterest and search some Pinterest boards to decorate your space inspired by the destination that you want to visit. And, just have fun with it.
2. Cook food inspired by the country you want to travel to
Again, you can find inspiration for this one on Pinterest. Search recipe ideas for Mexican food, Mediterranean, Thai, Indian, whatever cuisine you’re into.
Before I went to Rome, I bought capers, oregano, olives, and all the Italian-inspired food. I couldn’t wait to go to Rome so I decided to travel from home even before I booked my flight.
This way, you bring something specific of that country into your home. A lot of people like trying out the local cuisine while they’re traveling. If you’re one of those people then I’m sure you’re going to enjoy this idea.
It’s a great way to bring some sort of excitement into things that you’re doing all the time that have become a routine. We’re used to eating similar things and we all have our staple ingredients and recipes, so this is a nice way to break a routine for a while.

3. Listen to music from the country you want to visit
Before I went to Paris, I couldn’t get the song Paris by The Chainsmokers out of my head. It was my personal soundtrack for preparing for my trip to Paris.
Whatever genre you’re listening to, you’re going to find musicians from the country you want to visit. If you’re into metal or pop or rap, whatever it is, you can find musicians from the country that you want to visit.
For instance, if you want to go to France, but you don’t know many French rock bands, and you are into rock then you can just search Google for French rock bands (Alcest is one of my favorites). That way, not only will you surround yourself with the things from the country you want to travel to, but you’re also going to find new music you like. So it’s a win-win.
Moreover, what’s important is that the musician you find also sings in the language of that country. As you know, there are so many bands from all around the world that still sing in English which is not the point of this step.

4. Watch movies/TV shows where they speak the language of the country you want to travel to or that’s filmed in a location that you want to visit
The first thing that comes to mind is Emily in Paris. It’s a Netflix show filmed in Paris and has a lot of beautiful shots from all over the city.
Another one is Lupin, which is also filmed in Paris and the language spoken in it is French. That way, you can get more familiar with the language while enjoying some aesthetically pleasing city shots. And, it’s a good show. So there’s another win-win situation.
The point of these ideas is to surround yourself with things that are popular in the country that you want to visit. That way, you don’t have to wait to visit that destination to get familiar with it. Instead, you can already start by cooking the food from that country, listening to music from that country, watching movies and, basically, travel from home.
Those are some fun things that you can start doing at home right now. I made sure that all of these tips are easy to implement so that you can travel from home right away.

5. Learn the language of the country that you want to travel to
So far, this is my favorite because I always loved learning foreign languages.
I’ve studied more than six languages in my life and in most countries I visited, I at least knew the basics.
Before I went to Romania for the first time to volunteer, I spent a few weeks learning the language while I was still at home because I always like to know at least a few basic things.
While you’re at home and even if you don’t intend to travel anytime soon, you can still start learning the language of some country that you’d like to visit.
If you need some advice on what app to use to learn the language, I highly recommend Duolingo. It’s very fun and easy to use. I used it for learning Swedish, Norwegian, and Romanian and I absolutely recommend it.
I believe that learning the language is going to make you much more excited to travel to the country that you want to visit and speak to locals in their language. That’s always such a great feeling.
And the locals love that. Even if you’re not fluent in the language, when they see that you’re trying to speak their language, they always appreciate it.
On the other hand, if you already know the language of the country you’re going to, research some slang words or phrases that are common there, but that you aren’t familiar with.
For example, Australia has been on my bucket list for the longest time, and just a few days ago I researched slang words because I saw a video of a YouTuber from Sunshine Coast where she said that she needed to go to the servo.
And I was thinking, ‘’What the heck is servo?‘’
It sounded very much Australian because I knew that they love shortening the words.
So I Googled it and I found out that servo means gas station.
Actually, it means service, which is what in Australia they call a gas station.
So, as you can see, even if it’s a language that’s familiar to you, there is always something more to learn.
6. Read books in that language to improve your skills, or read books about the destination you want to visit
“A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading.”
― William Styron
I read a book specifically about Australia which was such a fun way to learn and to travel from home, in a way. I also read another book about the European countries I want to visit. Learning about different cultures is exactly what you would do while traveling so why not start while you’re at home.
Reading books about those countries while you’re at home is a great way to prepare before you actually visit your desired destination.
Another way to travel from home when it comes to reading is to pick up your favorite book and read it in the language of the country that you want to visit. This can be just to get familiar with that language or improve your existing skills.
And the last two tips that I’m going to share with you on how to travel from home are a bit more mindset-related. You can even consider them manifestation or the Law of Attraction tools.
If you’re into that then I’m sure you’re going to love the next few ideas.

7. Script your travel (travel from home like you’re already there)
Scripting is writing your desired outcome in the present or past tense as if it has already happened.
Let’s say that you want to go to Sydney, Australia. For scripting purposes, you’re going to describe how you spent your day in Sydney, even if you’re not there yet.
Scripting can look something like this:
‘’This morning, I woke up at 7 am in my Airbnb in Cronulla. In the morning, my partner and I went out for a breakfast and had acai bowls at d bowls (a restaurant in Cronulla). Then, we went to see the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge. We also met a couple of Sydney Siders. And, we’re going with them on a road trip to Byron Bay this weekend.’’
So remember – you want to focus on details and present or past tense. Write as it has already happened.
Think about what you would do in Sydney and write it out as if it happened yesterday.
I use this tool all the time. I scripted my ideal day in Paris before I even went there and it turned out exactly as I scripted it.
Scripting is like a mental rehearsal of the events that you want to happen. When you play the scenario of your desired outcome in your mind, you get closer to seeing it in your physical reality.
Hey, want to learn how traveling can transform your life? And get some amazing tips to manifest your dream trip? Then listen to episode 38 of my podcast: Transformative Travel & Manifesting Travel Using Visualization w/ Maritza Chavez.
8. Visualize your ideal travel scenario (while you travel from home)
Visualization is also a great manifestation tool to bring your desired outcome into your physical reality.
The best time to visualize is in the first 30 minutes of waking up or right before you fall asleep. That’s when our brain is the easiest to influence.
Instead of checking what’s new on social media or reading the news and letting that negativity set the tone for the rest of your day, you can just visualize your desired trip.
The way I do this is by playing some meditation music or doing a guided visualization on YouTube. YouTube is filled with videos specifically for guided visualizations and meditations.
One more thing you need to know when it comes to scripting and visualizing is that you can’t expect to do it every day and assume the change is going to happen.
After you script or visualize, you have to continue living as if your desired outcome has already happened. If you spend the rest of your day complaining about how you’re not there yet and you’re thinking, ‘’Oh no, I’m stuck at home and who knows when I’ll be able to travel again’’ then that’s the energy that you’re going to bring into your life.
Therefore, spending 20 minutes visualizing and scripting doesn’t mean anything if you don’t live the rest of the day in that state of gratitude for it already happening.
The main point is that your thoughts, emotions, and actions have to be aligned with your desired outcome in order for it to come true.
If you’re into manifestation, the Law of Attraction, and mindset things, then I think you’re going to love these last two ideas.
Furthermore, if you want to manifest a certain travel opportunity then make sure that you apply all the other steps that I mentioned in this post. You want to live as if you are already there.
Let’s say that you want to go to India. In India, you would eat Indian food and use Indian spices. You would walk through the city and you would hear Indian music. That’s how you would live every day – surrounded by all things Indian.
That’s what travel from home means – surrounding yourself with all those things right now so that you bring it so much faster into your physical reality.
